The Gates of Opportunity

University City’s founder, Edward G. Lewis, had the monumental Lions Gates — ”The Gates of Opportunity”— set at the edge of the civic plaza and at the entrance to the city’s residential neighborhoods. The original lions, sculpted in 1909 by George Julian Zolnay, were set atop pylons designed by architects Eames & Young.

To celebrate the 100th birthday of the Lions, a Call for Artists was sent out for a community-wide art project. From the submissions, nine were selected to design lifesize fiberglass lions that are placed throughout the City. Find the lions by using the information on this site!
